John Wayne “The Duke” is a true Hollywood icon of 20th-century American film. He is most famous for his portrayal of western and military heroes throughout his 50 year career. 

He was born Marion Morrison in Winterset, Iowa, 1907. His family moved to California when he was very young. His first leading role was in The Big Trail (1930), but it was his portrayal as the Ringo Kid in Stagecoach (1939) that made him a star.  Wayne went on to appear in more than 175 films, winning numerous awards and honors, including the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  His legacy continues with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, which brings courage, strength and grit to the fight against cancer.  

He remains one of America's most beloved celebrities as the most famous cowboy in cinema.
